History

The Boulder Monitor

Founded in 1907 after combining two predecessors, the Monitor has served Jefferson County for nearly a century. Current publisher, the Jefferson County Courier owned by David and Jan Anderson, bought the Monitor in March 2002.

The Jefferson County Courier

Founded in April 1997, the Courier was awarded the prestigious Thomas Dimsdale Sweepstakes Award for work published in 2000 and the National Newspaper Association Freedom of Information Award in 2004.

Published each Wednesday, the papers are distributed by mail to subscribers at a cost of $24 per year to Jefferson County addresses, $26 for addresses elsewhere in Montana, and $30 for U. S. addresses outside Montana. Send your payment and mailing address to: Boulder Monitor, PO Box 66, Boulder, MT, 59632. State which paper you desire, the Monitor or the Courier. Back copies also available for sale.

We are a very hard-working staff that enjoys being together, and it shows in our work. We are dedicated to bringing our readers the news that matters in Jefferson County, and our efforts have been rewarded by numerous awards over the years. Most recently, the Boulder Monitor won 17 awards, including first place writing awards for feature writing, government reporting, spot news and sports column writing, from the Montana Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
